(from my publication)
When looking back at the works I have been doing in term 2.1, I noticed that I have done a lot of work even though it feels like I have not done so much. I have been looking through all of my notes and all the screenshots I have been taking throughout the term. It is a lot. I have done them with the aim to remember important things from the lectures that we have had. It is not only to document the lectures, but I have also taken screenshots and making notes on what books, documentaries, movies, and websites I want to remember or look at some day. I have achieved these references through different classes.
The last year has been exceedingly difficult to adapt to due to the new circumstances, online studies. Suddenly everything was digital, and we had no other choice than being online. Always sitting at home, in the same room, in a country far away from home. We were expected to read and digest all information given on different platforms. Information was coming through our school email, in Microsoft Teams, at mywdka and updates about the current situation through Hint. During this period, I tried my best to take notes in order to not forget anything. I was taking notes after notes, in different physical notebooks, post-it's, on my computer, on my phone, making to-do lists, making lists of deadlines, taking screenshots etc. But all this without success. It was still too much information to handle. Normally I do take a lot of notes in my process because I learn more when I write it down and when I can look back on my notes from different classes. But writing is also something I do enjoy, both handwriting and calligraphy. However, to solve this big chaos of information I tried different strategies. Through collaborating with classmates and creating folders and categories together, it became much easier. We divided categories for each subject and filled them with links, deadlines and so on.
For my RPD (Research Process Document) I wanted to highlight my notetaking and screenshotting that is a big part of my design process.
INTRO
I believe that it is important for me to find a method to work that is functional for me. By analysing my design process, I realised that my process is quite messy. To have notes both physically and digitally plus having a lot of screenshots was making it difficult to keep my work organised and structured. Even though I am quite organised when it comes to folders on my computer it became hard to find things I was looking for.
Something else that I could profit from is to reflect a bit more before I start creating. I usually start too early with the design and often I can feel like I have missed stuff content-wise or design-wise because I did not think and reflect enough. This could be a reason why I am feeling unsatisfied with my works.
So, what could be done in the future? I would say that I should try to use mind maps, try different working methods (for example the Pomodoro technique), and create a day-to-day planning which will allow me to see if I am on track or not easily.
Epilogue
My project
Something I do very often is to take screenshots whenever I find something might be important to remember. The screenshots could be from a class or a screenshot of nice inspiration from Instagram or Pinterest, but it could also be important things in my private life.
Why I am taking a large amount of screenshots is because I am afraid of forgetting important things. How could I be able to remember everything without documenting it? I think it is good to be able to look back at the lectures we have had and by that it is easier to see the red line through the projects.
